What is A5penpal?

A5penpal is a program designed to connect you to someone with similar interests in another part of the world.

You exchange letters every two weeks with your penpal including prompts, questions, playlists and whatever else you would like!

There is no limit to your creativity besides all letters must be A5 size (5.8 x 8.3 in or 148 x 210 mm)

What does A5 mean?

A5 is a standard stationary sizing (5.8 x 8.3 in). The only requirement for the program is your letter is in A5 therefore your penpal and yourself will be able to store it in an A5 binder! Anything else you wish to include does not need to fall into the A5 sizing, just the letter itself.

What to write?

First things first, introduce yourself! Tell your penpal a little bit about yourself beyond what was on your application. There will be some prompts given throughout the program that you can use to guide the conversation, but feel free to go beyond that. You can also include questions of your own, playlists, recipes, etc. the purpose of this project is to just get to know someone else.

Do I need to buy anything?

Absolutely not! Any stationery/paper/craft supplies that you already have are fine. But if you wish to purchase special things to really make your letter stand out, go ahead. It is all up to you! This is your project to have fun with! As stated the only requirement is making your letter A5 size (5.8 x 8.3 in) to be able to fit into an A5 binder (Which, again, not a requirement but it makes everything a little more fun!)

With everything going on, will my letter arrive on time?

We understand with everything going on mail will take longer than normal. That is why the mailing deadlines are two weeks apart, but please have patience. We provided socials and emails for every match for you to reach out and contact them, and we are always available to help out as well.

What are Freebies?

Freebies are anything you gift to your penpal along with your letter and are completely optional. They can be anything such as playlists, recipes, stickers, photos, postcards, pressed flowers, tea bags, etc. You can get creative and customize according to your penpal's tastes and interests!
